Water in hyd/transmission oil

If the old Ferguson has been setting in the barn a few weeks not being used,

It might a good time to crawl under it and crack the sump drain plug, see if you get any water to run oil out,

It normally takes a few weeks for the water to settle to the bottom of the sump,

Each time you run the tractor you re mix the oil and water,

If possible drain it out into a clear glass container so you can see what drained out, it you have not done this in a long while or changed the
fluid, you might be surprised as how much water can accumulate in the sump,
Just a heads up, as your hyd pump is setting down in the bottom of the sump in whatever is down there!!!!!!!

You don't need to drain any silly water from the sump.
It can sit down there just fine.
Water contains a slight amount of oxygen.
That oxygen in the water helps make rust and corrosion.
The hydraulic relief valve is at the bottom of the pump and all that water is helping to keep it clean.
Yep, that's right, Clean.
Some day, when the hydraulics quit working because the relief valve rusted up, it will be a clean failure.
So don't drain the water and you too might get to experience a clean failure.
Then some folks start using them short f-o-u-r letter words and all.

I replaced my fluid after the tractor set for 20+ years. There was more water than fluid. While draining, I noticed something at the drain hole. Turns out it was 1/2 of a dipstick. And speaking of dipsticks, the bell and seal around the dipstick was missing allowing water to run into it.
