Question about oil and hydraulic change

I know this has been asked a thousand times but I need to hear it once more. I live in the Sandhills area of NC and we have a mild winter. It gets cold but doesn't stay that way very long. What is the best weight oil for my 55 TO 35? Also my oil gauge is not working. I plan on rebuilding the oil pump. Any thoughts or suggestions. Last thing I'm going to do is change the hydraulic fluids and put GL-1 in it. Anything I should look for while I have the covers off? I know the filter screen is wired and you should see where and how it is wired so you can replace it correctly. Appreciate any help.

I have a 1957 TO35
I use shell 15w40 diesel oil in the motor, works good and old engine holds good oil pressure, I use the same oil in my diesel dodge truck,

Oil for the transmission hyd gearbox sump,

a couple years ago I replaced the oil with GL-1 mineral oil 90 weight, non detergent
Yes in the cold weather hyd pump is slow to lift up, but it's worn like me, but by the time the motor has warmed up, the pump lifts up and works,

However as old as these tractors are I would replace the transmission hyd oil with shell 15w40 diesel oil,

The whole purpose of using mineral oil was to protect the bronze bearings in the transmission, the sulfur based lubricants can attack the bronze bearings, however I do not know if that is true,
The reason to use non detergent oil was so dirt particles would fall to the bottom of the sump and be taken away when you changed the sump oil, detergent oil the dirt particles stay suspended in the oil so they will be removed by the oil filter before they go through the hyd pump, wearing it out,
All of this to say, I just When back with GL-1 90 weight mineral oil non detergent from NAPA, they have it in one and five gal containers,

Note to file, try to find something to do with the old tractor to get the drive train as warm as possible so it will drain out faster, also pour your new oil in slow as it has to move over a few humps etc inside the sump, example a couple of gallons then let it set an hour, have it stored inside so the new oil is warm, it flows much better, not a 10 minute job,
Good luck, be sure clutch sump drain hole is open if you pour in to fast and it overflows, clutch does not like oil
Over in England the can buy multi grade oil non detergent

Central Wisconsin. I run 10-30w and have good oil pressure. GL-1 in the trans, little slow in the winter until it warms up but isn't bad.
