TO 35 standard to deluxe

I have a TO 35 Deluxe. The hydraulic/rear end cover is cracked as is a small crack at the front of the
entire rear end case. The crack is at the left front corner on the top and into one of the bolt holes
for the top cover plate. I found a complete rear end with a good cover plate, but its from a standard
tractor. Can I use my parts and convert the standard to a deluxe? Can the crack ( 1 1/2 ") be welded?
Or do I look for a deluxe rear housing? Or part the tractor. I would like save it.

If it's your rock shaft cover that's bad just remove and replace with one from other rear end. It's no different from the one you now have. Standard is just the seat and double clutch difference from deluxe and sometime headlights.

You can use the entire rear end from the standard in place of yours. The Deluxe parts are in the clutch and transmission case, not the rear end casting. It also seems to me I have heard that the ground speed PTO position was removed from the standard models, but not sure if that's true. If it is true, you should be able to install your ground speed PTO parts into the standard rear end case fairly easily if you want it. Most never use ground speed PTO.

Stuff like that can be furnace brazed (silver alloy). You'll need to
find someone who can do it. And it will cost too much.
Afterward, you need to make sure the machined surfaces didn't
warp out of shape. May require machine work, and certainly new paint.

That the crack is at the top, is it causing a problem? If it's just leaking oil, can you vee it out and pack it with JB Weld?

A lot also depends on why it cracked.

Was it a one time, unusual event that hopefully won't happen again?

Or did it crack as a result of normal use? If normal use cracked it, chances are brazing or welding will not hold.

One time event. Ice in the case. Didn't get it changed in fall due to an injury. I was laid up 6 months. Tractor in machine shed all winter. Started in early March. Let it run about 10 minutes, stepped on clutch and bang. Oil shot between my legs over the steering wheel. Caused the crack and cracked the lid. Have another lid but the case crack has me concerned. Going to a good welding shop after Christmas. Hopefully they can do it.

ouch..........stop drill 1/8" hole at end of crack. Then "V" the crack 1/8" each side of crack. The BRAZE the crack, starting at the open end, about 1/4" atta time. Let cool, then braze again. Leave inplace on tractor so it won't WARP. Simple, eh? ..........HTH, the amazed Dell
