Mr. Ferguson's simple genius

I just finished flipping over the cutting blade on my B-FO-20 multi purpose blade and I am always amazed at how bolts rarely break. I have noticed the same whenever I am taking apart other Ferguson implements or tractors that have not had bolts replaced with modern ones. At first I attributed this to the strength of the older steel, but, after reading Harry Ferguson's biography it all made sense. He was very critical with his specifications and when one of his engineers had presented him with a part that had four threads showing on a bolt he refused to discuss the part until it was correct with two or less threads showing. How simple is that. Put a wrench on a nut and it comes undone without breaking the bolt because the threads are all rusted up. And keeping almost all head sizes the same, genius.

Just thought I would share this because I am always amazed at how easy Ferguson machines are to work on.
