darntractor

Sooo, I have a to30 that I twisted a pto on. I have actually been working on and off on this since spring and I have finally friggin had it with this problem.

I cut the PTO behind the pump but try as I am I could not get the pump to drop out the bottom. I decided since it was twisted in front or even in the pump I needed to split the tractor. I removed the bolts and everything on the outside of the tractor.. exhaust and etc.
It will not split. I can get it about an inch apart and then it seems the pump is still holding it in. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am close to junking the thing. I just can have it in pieces in the shop any more.
I have been through the manual a dozen times. Just out of ideas

Sometimes the cotter pin that's dropped through the hole in the bottom of the bellhousing will hang up on the flywheel and prevent the engine from separating completely from the transmission.

Was splitting it after the tranny not between the tranny and engine
Is there a cotter pin back there that is not mentioned in the manual. That is kinda what it is acting like

Nope, no pin back there.
Are the wheels & tires still on the rear axle? Do you have a jack under the trans to keep it level and supported while you try to roll the tires back? Are the trans and PTO in neutral?
Don't give up yet, someone on the board should be able to help.

It all level and supported the trans is in neutral but the PTO is not. When it twisted it was in gear, obviously, the pto stopped working and the lever froze basically in that on position. I have not been able to budge it.
I don't want to force anything but if that "collar" needs to slide for this to release, what do I need to beat on with my BFH?

Remove the PTO lever and both of the round side covers. You should be able to get a pry bar on the PTO clutch sleeve and pry it back to release it from the gear.
I'll try to get a picture for you later, Photobucket isn't working right now & I've got to get to work.

So I pulled the seat and top hydraulic today. I can get everything to rock back and forth but the PTO seems jammed fast in the pump. It should slide but when I rock the tractor back and forth the pump moves with the front.
I think I can see enough space to try to cut the PTO in front of the pump unless anyone has any better ideas. I can't help but t hink there has to be a way to get that shaft to release. The collar that slides to engage the pto won't budge so I am wondering if it is not twisted up further?

I really would appreciate any ideas

Well, before you get the gun out, cut the shaft in front of the pump, then you should be able to get everything apart and fixed. I don't think there's any other choice. Other than the gun. :D :p
