New Generator Alignment

Following the original generator seizing up and purchase of a new replacement and pulley, the belt alignment is off about 5mm or 1/4 inch + or -.
I had also replaced the water pump pulley (secondhand) which had lost the front face of the pulley and a new fan belt.
The new generator has a spacer between the body and pulley. If I remove this spacer it will probably align, but will the pulley rub on the face of the generator?
Any thoughts?

Remove the spacer and replace it with a washer , it won't rub then and will probably line up properly . Otherwise fit the generator mounting flange to the inside of the mounting bracket at front and outside at back with another washer to make up any difference like I have done here .

Can you slot the holes in the red gen. mounting bracket where it mounts to the engine and slide it back to get your alignment?

Try taking the pulley off, turn it around, or switch the spacer with the washer.

Do you still have the original generator? Will the old pulley work?

Thank you all for your ideas and comments.
Agreeing with Tony and with time of the essence with three acres still to slash and the fire danger season started as of 1st December, I did as Charles suggested and removed the spacer and inserted a thin washer. The alignment is better but still out. I considered moving the Generator to the left, but with a dummy run I guess I would have needed a washer about 1/2 thick and it would have moved the left end with the spade terminals now provided in lieu of nuts and bolts very close to the petrol pipe.
Steve, you can't turn the pulley around as one side is recessed where the retaining nut sits and the whole face would have rubbed on the generator and no room for the nut. I do have the old pulley but my dirt is 80 kms away and I didn't have the old generator nor my 3 leg gear puller. I have since removed it and will clean it up and try your suggestion next weekend.
Mike, there is third bolt at right angles to the bracket secured to the front of the block so movement rearwards is not on.
I will let you know the outcome in due course. I do not relish the thought of doing the job on the ride-on mower.
Frank.

Mate I've never seen the grass grow as fast and as high as it has this year , slashing for the fire season has got to be a priority .
If you can't fix it in time put the old one back , it doesn't have to put out gharge , just turn smoothly enough for the fan belt to tension and run properly . A fully charged battery will easily start and run a Fergie for a three acre paddock cut . Just charge it up at home when you get back .
I have crank started a fergie and run it for almost an hour on just two six volt torch batteries .

Good to here you getting it sorted Frank.

CHARLES, is that exhaust painted with penatrol or similar rust prevention??

Black heat resistant exhaust paint from AutoBarn .
It was fairly new there , five years later and it is flaking off . There is a ceramic paint that works a little better but is the same colour , it really should be grey , as well as the generator . I did this before I knew just what a sin it was to paint anything any other colour than grey . :)

Yes Charles, the wet Winter has certainly seen the grass grow. I have done 12 of the 15 acres, it's that last 3 I need to do.
I could put the old one back on I suppose, but when I said it had seized, I didn't paint a very good picture.
I am still awaiting quotes for it's repair. L.O.L.. I'm not going to bother getting a comparative quote even if I do get one!

Well Frank that one has well and truly had the Richard .Knackered twice I think . Surprisingly there is a market for what is left , no I am serious :) . The outside is stamped Lucas and has a date as well .Restorers who want a matched number original tractor will often swap the innards of a good one into the right numbered outside.
You can get almost $50 for that mess if you have the right year for the right buyer .
