Egad and Egad Redux

In followup to my posts of 10/05 and 10/16, I replaced the clutch disc and throw out bearing with new from YTMag parts, rear seal with new from AGCO (spring was broken!) and all is well again. It has been recommended to block the clutch pedal down between times of use, even with a new clutch disc, but, in so doing, is there harm done to the pressure plate springs?

I starting blocking about five years ago. before that I did not and never had a problem. the tractors would sit all winter outside covered with tarps. just lucky I guess.

I hadn't either, but maybe precipitated it by cleaning both pp and flywheel to a shiny surface, then later hosing the tractor with water after applying Gunk. How water to any significant degree got in there baffles me, as it has been in a dry building ever since all this rebuild activity, compared with exposure to all manner of environments prior to that, during which no clutch issues were had!

funny you mention that as I did have one clutch stick over the years. I replaced the double clutch on one of my 35's years ago along with engine rebuild, paint job and other repairs. I decide that the machine needed to be indoors so I kept in the garage with my wife's car. the tractor would get started once or twice a year. one spring I hopped on it and low and behold the clutch was stuck. luckily it became unstuck easily. the tractor now sits outside with the rest of em. garage is unheated but attached to house.

Clutch materials have changed over the years and now have more metal in them. Metal, humidity, more metal, spring pressure...
Oh. Stuck clutch. 2X4 to hold the pedal or a "C" clamp. Either way should work. I unstuck the neighbors JD 40 twice now.
He got a 2X4 after the first time. He just forgot to use it and the second time around is now blocked without fail.
Kevlar clutch does not stick. If you have a new semi metallic disc, I bet it will stick on you. Metal, humidity, more metal, spring pressure...
