Ferguson TO30 head nut torque wrench

I would like to torque two head nuts that I removed to route the water temp capilary tube through the clamps that were under them and although there are plenty of posts with the torque setting and sequence, I have found not one with advice about how to torque the nuts under the lip of the cylinder head. I purchased a crows foot 11/16th and it seems too big; also, it barely has room to turn. Is there a special type of torque wrench other than the standard automotive type or the one's that click when torque is reached.

I don't use the standard type because my Aunt owns and operates a calibration lab and they always test to be less torque than what is shown on the gauge.

Lots of folks on the board make their own, but I'm not that talented. This one came from the MAC Tool guy, but you can also find them online.

If I understand your posting, you are looking for a way to torque the head bolts or nuts that are under the lip of the cylinder head. My Dad has one of these TO30 Tractors and a few years ago, he had to replace a head gasket on it. He had the same problem of how to torque the outside head nuts. He made a special tool to be able to torque these nuts. He took an extra socket and welded it to the correct size socket that actually fits the head nuts. This allowed him to be able to torque the nuts. The homemade socket did extend the length of the torque wrench and could throw off the "actual torque value" that was applied to the nut, but he set the wrench to the correct torque, torqued all the nuts and has had no problem with it. I'll post a picture of the welded socket that he used. Good luck getting it torqued.

Thank you 67, I have just purchased the torque wrench adapter that Tom showed me from Macs tools. It was $21 with taxes. That was very resourceful creating what was needed and makes me want to do an experiment with this new extention and one like yours compared to just a socket to see if there is any difference in torque between them.

Thanks again bub

If you use it like in the photo, there won't be much difference.
The effective leverage on the handle is not changed when the
attachment is at 90 degrees.

(quoted from post at 21:15:43 07/29/16) What are these special wrenches called and where can I find them on line?
thank you

I know its off topic but 'Gov35' please go visit your previous posting at http://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?t=1177126
