Splitting a TO30

Getting ready to split my TO30 because of leaky rear crank seal and, I think, leaky transmission seal. (I'm guilty of changing to 10W30 oil in the tranny and then over filling it)

I have lots of questions so I'll probably just post one or two at a time.

First of all, when people say to block the engine so it doesn't rotate around the front pivot.... is that putting blocks between the front axle beam and the radiator/hood mount that is under the axle beam? Is that enough to get the job done?

Secondly, I emailed John (UK) for some of his fantastic repair manuals he wrote but haven't heard from him and I see he hasn't been on the forum for a long time. Does anyone know the situation there?

Thanks !!!

Just split mine the other day for the 3rd time, long story. Anyways I always just used two floor jacks with some wood blocks. One under the oil pan and one under the transmission. Position the wheels on jacks so when you take the bolts out you can roll the two pieces apart.

I block axle like you said and use floor jack under engine to roll back from
transmission. Make sure blocks are tight are it will tip over.I use 2x4 blocks cut on
45 and this fits better. John was under the weather last time he posted several months
ago.

Thanks for clarifying the blocks for me and giving me an update on John. Hope he gets feeling better soon. Last time he asked me what manuals I was interested in and I asked for some stuff on the engine which he graciously sent. I should have just asked for everything he had and then I wouldn't have to bug him again :)

Wow, third time to split your tractor? Probably can do in your sleep now :)
If the oil is fairly clean, to you try to reuse it?

Split it at the flywheel twice for clutch issues and just recently for engine rebuild. The second time I did it I drove it in the shop, split it, new clutch and pilot bearing installed, had it back together and running in under an hour. Not much to it once you know exactly how it all comes apart.
