Hi All, I'm John from Australia and I just Joined the Forum,

I've been reading lots and found it really helpful, Thanks

I have a 1951 TEA20 that I just finished restoring and also I recently acquired a 1968 MF135 that I'll start on soon.

I have one quick question...

I got these recently from a friend, the bottom two are sway bars for the tow hitch but what is the other bar for?

Any ideas?

John.

Ha John, welcome and thats a nice looking restore job.

I can only think that the top bar in the pic looks like the stay bars used to hold the drawbar down, but it looks like the top sections only bolted together.... So probably not that, Someone here will let you know..

I'm not sure on the top one but I bought a pair of the bottom two
yesterday at an auction with the parts that attach the sway arms
under the axle for ten bucks.

Thanks for sharing ...a beautiful Machine Sir:

We own a 1951 TEA-20 here in Canada that has been in my family since new:

Thanks everyone for your replies

I think Bob has cracked it.

I think they are all stay bars, the top one is 2 x top stay drawbar uppers (item 2) incorrectly bolted together and the bottom 2 bars are actually 4 x stay drawbar lowers (item 3 )

I'll unbolt them and reassemble them the correct way

Many thanks, John

(quoted from post at 04:42:29 10/31/16) # 35 & 34 are the proper original "SWAY BAR" components:

Hi Bob, I have a set of these, I thought they were called Stabalizer Bars, They mount under the rear axle,
Where as the others are called Stay Bars or sway bars and are only for the Tow Hitch
What does the parts catalogue describe them as?

The adjustable stay bars that you have are used to fix an implement ; most often the carryall , into a set position and height above the ground . This relieves pressure on the lift cylinder especially when travelling long distances or over rough terrain with a heavy load .
The holes in them are too small for the end pins of the standard holed drawbar .
There are two types , they look much the same , one set made for the TE20 the other for the FE 35 , the TE ones have smaller end returns on the upper end of the bar , the FE ones , longer .

ITEM # 2 180 493 M1.....DRAWBAR Upper STAY:

ITEM # 3 180 494 M1.....DRAWBAR Lower STAY:

#35 & 34.....SWAY BARS:

Info as Per PARTS BOOK Form No. 693 041 M2

Note Item 70 in pic.
