replacing a starter switch on a TO 20

I have ordered a new starter switch for my TO-20 Ferguson, Sparex part #S42538, which I read should be the correct replacement. (This switch is a gear-shifter activated.) In removing the old and probably original starter switch, I see that the connecting brackets, where the clevis pin connects the switch to the gear shift rod, on the old switch are much longer than those on the new. I am waiting for the new switch to arrive. Has anyone had the experience or replacing the old switch with a new one? I am hopeful that this is not going to be a problem.

I guess if it doesn't work I will simply buy a cheaper starter switch which looks like it mounts on the dash.

This latest mess is getting expensive. I think the switch shorted out and then boogered up the starter which drained the battery!!!

Good thing I have another tractor.

Replace the starter switch and then wire that to a starter solenoid. The solenoid fires the starter. 12V running thru the starter switch is a lot less current that directly feeding the starter.
Capeech?

The part number for the switch is 181 679 M1. The TO20 and TO30 switch are the same. Does this part number cross reference to your Sparex part number? I don't understand your question, meaning Clevis pin etc. I need to replace my switch as well, and looking them over and reading up on them. They are a simply push button, correct. The mechanical rod pushes on the starter button. The plate #23 and the toggle #24 stay in place and only the starter button gets replaced, #21. I have found Napa parts starter buttons for ford tractors are longer. The starter button for the TO series are much shorter. This site sells the part. Look at that and get back to me on what you have or plan to replace. Thanks.

The part you orderd appears to be for the TE-20. That would not be correct if you have a TO-20. On the TE model from reading you need to be very carful not to drop, the rod and pin down into the motor. This is not the case on the TO as only the starter button drops in. No need to mess with the rod and Clevis.

I think you have solved my problem, at least, on paper. I have been careful to secure the starter rod and will reconnect the base with the clevis pin and cotter back in place. I had done some research and saw on some very old posts(on this site) that the Sparex part would work in both Ferguson models. Now I will order the TO 20 switch replacement and drop it in the base. I had originally thought it was all one unit.

Thanks for the help.
