Quick oil bath air filter question - TEA20

Hey folks --

When changing out the oil on the '52 air filter unit, does the inner cup get filled to the same level as the outer chamber? I notice the top edge of the inner cup corresponds exactly with the fill line on the casing.

Or is the idea that the inner cup only gets what oil slops over the edge or through those little holes at the top of the barrier between inner and outer chambers?

Thanks!

On my TO 35 I fill the air cleaner bowel to the oil fill line, then place the inner cup with slotted holes inside,

As I remember oil flows over into the inter cup through the slots

When I clean the filter there is debris inside the inter cup and also in the bottom of the oil cup,

Must be working as the old tractor still runs like a top after all these years,

One time I took the air filter tower assembly off and soaked it in kerosene for 12 hours, then ran clean kerosene through it until it ran clean,

Let it drip dry for 24 hours,

You would not believe how much dirt was up in that wire mesh filter,
Old tractor runs good,

Thanks guys -- appreciate the time and the diagram. Although it doesn't say in the wording, it looks in the diagram like the inner cup is filled as high as the outer chamber and the force of induction air blows it to the side far enough for the air to keep passing through. I never thought there'd be enough suction to do that. Guess I'll top it up.

Next season I will tackle the complete mesh clean. Bet it hasn't had that done in 50 years...
