Disc plow questions

Could this be a Ferguson plow? Does it look like any pieces are missing? He's asking $300, that seems high to me, what do ya'll think?
Thanks,
BillL

I think it is a Ferguson triple disc plow
picture of one my friend owns: straight bullet type body. double disc plow. gray color
I own a later MF disc plow, bent tube model, 2 disc plow, red color
note: the two holes at the end of the tube body are for the bolts that attach a third plow,
I would say its worth the money if the trailing wheel assembly is in tack.

question: does it have the rear trailing guide wheel, cannot tell from the picture, it must have this wheel or the plow will not work.
most old plows were placed in a fence row or woods line when that trailing disc blade worn down and would no longer guide the plow straight,

we replaced the rear guide disc blades on both of these plows, they work fine,
will not hang up on roots and rocks, just roll over them and keep going.

odd they would have stored it flipped over as it still has the proper support arm in tack,
may have wanted to keep the disc blades out of the dirt, as they will sink into the ground and rust, if left for years not set on something.

these type plows were used for years until trip flat bottom plows came along,
again, I say buy it if it has the rear guide wheel, if nothing else it would make a interesting statement at a tractor show, as there would not be another one there.
can you get some more pictures of the plow.

price, we paid about two hundred for our plows, tell him scrap metal price is down at this time,
fairly rare Ferguson plow, hate to see it go to the scrap yard,
also folk tail was that with every Ferguson disc plow a Ferguson wrench was stored and shipped inside that tube, who knows???

I'm with Max on all points here.
Can't see it not belonging to one of 'us'. You just have to bring it home...
but yeah see what you can do about the price. I suppose if it is all there and in good shape... and he helps you load it.... 3 is top end.
Just don't expect your 20 to get much plowed up with it...
oh. I go 2 disc plows, and the only thing I found in either tube was bee hives...

I have a 3 disk with the back disc pipe being straight. Your has the crook. The back disk was a add on. Thats what the holes are for on a two disk you just add extra disk. I've seen one that was make 3 disk and a 4th added. Only seen one. Also I can't see the scrapers that may be
missing. Price isn't to back but see if your can talk him down. Don't look like he has used it or needs it. Most
people don't know how to set it to plow and they don't like it. It's a good piece for the Ferguson collectors.

Another plow picture. I think someone made this single.
Tony do you have the picture at Esbenshade's where your at the 5 bottom(?)disk plow? I can't find it.

couple more pictures of me using my disc plow

disc plows leave the ground a bit more rough,
second picture is of the scrapers shooting the dirt off the disc plow blades.

I like to use it because no one else around has one, it covers good and does not get choked very often.

My MF 3x12" flat bottom plows do a good job, if the ground is relative clean, but get choked easily if there is a lot of debris like corn stalks, not enough throat area.

when I am plowing my truck patch along the road I have had people stop and watch the old disc plow work as some have said they had never seen one before.

This is the 5 disc plow. I was thinking it was a 4 disc but was a 5 disk. Only one I've ever seen. Think it was for the
TO 20. LOL That's Tony at the back.

You're right. That is me. Thought it was you, but you don't have a mustache...
I guess I was wondering how many killer bee hives could fit in that tube.... it musta been a tall plow, since I am almost 6 feet 9.....

There was a fellow who worked for MF from the early 60's till recently, from your neck of the woods, who was giving some of us an offhand lesson on plows. You and me use these things real deep- he was saying these discs were designed to till only a couple inches deep, so a 3 bottom would/could be handled by a 35, but these big ones- there was a 4 disc at the show- were made to go behind the big MH333's and such that were still Massey Harris, but were coming out with 3 point hitches.
We see the one I am next to has an MF triangle, so I suppose for a 90 or up.

More than likely you were looking to see if there was a plough spanner hiding in there Tony :D

I wouldn't know a plough spanner if a drunken Sheila was beating me with it!
Seen them on a display, but haven't yet bought one nevermind find a free one! This is a big spot to store such a small tool. You'd need a wrench to remove the cap to retrieve a wrench?? If it slid to the front, you could never reach it... I know I couldn't!
A fergie urban legend???[/code]

Yes it is too long . But , here in OZ at least it seems to be fairly common with the two disc models. You find them wrapped up in a greased hessian bag tied with wire to the end cap . I have often wondered if this was the way they were shipped from the dealer and the spanner was just forgotten .

That's a furrow wheel, some call it a tail wheel- it rides in the corner of the 'landside' and bottom of the furrow the share just made. It keeps the plow from drifting too far to the left or aiming down any further.
If you want to see a video of a disc plow go to you tube you and search, video don't load good on here.
