trailer advice needed....

got my eye on this 6x12 now that I sold my single axle unit. I need to take some more measurements but what concerns is the one piece lift gate. I can't help but wonder if the gate will act as a "sail" when traveling at high speed. (70mph) might it cause the trailer to sway? reduced MPG is a given but the little I will use it makes that concern mute.

opinions?

thanks.

What are you going to haul with that trailer? I hope not one of your tractors AND an implement. You need at least a 16 foot for tractor and a 2/14" bottom plow. I have never seen or talked to any one that had one with that type of tailgate so I can not comment any further.

I have a similar steel-deck trailer 4.5x9 feet diamond plate, dual axle, 7000lb rating, I use for my Skid steer. I took my Harley down/back to Daytona Beach and got 13.oMPG with a Dodge Dakota V-8. My tailgate is the wire type, with steel brace. I would go with the flow-thru wire. Also lighter if you have to remove it. Your choice!

The tailgate will catch a lot of wind. Even the expanded metal will catch wind that you wouldn't think. Hurts your mileage. When your going against a head wind even more. I use the ramps (2) that slide under the end of trailer. I have a 24ft goose neck that I haul two F40 HC and have plenty of room.

I am not familiar with that type of gate and am wondering how heavy it is to lift into upright position. Does it have any kind of springs or helpers of any kind? It just looks heavy in the picture.

That tailgate will cost you at least 2 mpg. Actually more. 2 MPG would be with just two solid ramps.
That dead plate would chase me off. How about a beaver tail with ramps?

Don't even bother looking at this one. Not right for what 'we' do. 4 wheelers, skid steers, firewood, yeah. We need- you want- 16 feet. It don't need to be built like a battleship, just hold stuff above the tarmac. Tractor with or without loader, something on the hitch, and even more strapped down. I hauled so much to OK each trip, paid for itself so many times even before these trips. All on one we bought in 1988, lightweight, easy to fix and maintain, might be less $$ than the one you have in the pic. What's that one in the background?

Saw one like that fall to the road surface years ago . What a shower of sparks ! The struts holding it up had snapped . I stopped to help the bloke lift it back up and tie it securely , he said that it had happened before and this second set of struts were three times the size of the last pair . There must be an incredible wind force on the ramp.

I suppose you could just cut the centre of the ramp out and create two narrower ones for very little effort .

Yep. Landscape trailer with angle iron ramps rather than mesh is what I have since Reagan was running around with his green machine...
$$$??? He got one with stronger ramps? Removable rails and fenders are not a plus....
