I have a pic of the serial number but how do I know if its a TO20 or a TO 30?

so its a 1952 TO something

so I found this

TO30 production started at serial number 60001 in August 1951

does that mean TO20 production stopped with the introduction of the TO30?

You are correct, TO 20 production stopped and TO 30 production started in 1951. A quick way to tell the TO 30 from the TO 20 is if you can see the dash a TO 30 will have a air intake on the right side of the dash where as the TO 20 does not. The TO 20 and 30 have different rear axle housings as the TO 30 axles are a little heftier so I am fairly sure they will have different casting numbers on the trumpets (housings). As far as engines go look below the oil dip stick there are CASTING numbers and letters. We are only interested in the first 4 digits. Z 120 means that was a TO 20 engine while Z 129 means a TO 30 engine. Those are cu. in. numbers & you may really have to clean, brush or some how get that 4th digit really clean to tell a 0 from a 9. I hope this may help you.

75174 was the 2,429th one built in 1952 out of a total production of 33,470, so it was a early 1952. The TO 20 started at #1 and went to 60000. TO 30 started at 60001 and went to 140000.

The TO20 Has a Z120 engine and the TO30 has a Z129 engine and an
oil filter canister on the side of the engine.

I had a TE20 with a continental Z120 but I believe most TE20 came
with the standard engine. TE20 are easy to spot the trans case was
aluminum so very it wouldn't be rusted up.

That serial number is for a TO-30 (> TO 60000). The other ways to tell is that the air inlet for the air filter is on the right side of the dash and the Z 129 Continental(look at data plate on the left side of the engine block just below the head/block intersection) and has an external oil filter on right side of the block.

The TEA-20 came with the Standard engine. The TE-20 had the Z120 Continental and Lucas (Prince of Darkness) electrics.
