Hi all, new here and new to fergies but not new to old tractors. been fond of Farmalls as thats what we used when I was a kid on the farm but the neighbor had a lil creme hooded fergie and i always loved it.

Ok I admit i have been bitten by the bug. have seen this site before and found it again trying to research as much as I can about a couple TE20s. One sits in my drive, the other awaits a long trip to go n get it. The one in possession is a 1948 TE20 with a rebuilt engine. The other is reported to be a 1950 TE20 but it seems to have a continental engine so I am wondering if its older. I have read that the continental was replaced by the standard and then they were called TEA20s. I have found conflicting info so do not really know.

I have read just about any thread here having anything to do with my tractors and many that do not. I am learning from this site and that's my intention.
I was disappointed to learn that I missed a FENA meet in Republic, Mo as I live only 60 miles east of Springfield.
I am having trouble finding year specific changes about models. I have found one spec page that says the 16 inch rims are correct for my 48 TE20 but I see many pics of them with 19s, the tractor I have yet to pick up had 19s on it. Both are incorrectly red tin over gray castings. Any info on the actual stats would be appreciated. I have seen it mentioned YEs and TEAs were made side by side. Other sites say the TE engine was switched to the Standard in 47. Do all Standard engines run the slanted oil filter assembly on the left side? 80 as well as 85mm versions? Are all Standard engine equipped TEs considered TEAs?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

I know I have much to learn

Just got the serial number on the TE I am picking up next week, not a 50 but a 49. One difference i noticed was the floor boards are tapered on the 48 and rectangular on the 49. The 48 has two different styles, one is holes the other is treadplate design.

both TE20s

I guess I can post pics ;)

No not all Standard Motor equipped Fergusons are TEAs If you click this link it will show what all the TE series tractors actually are. I will leave your other questions for others to answer.
TE 20 Model variations

(quoted from post at 05:06:41 10/06/16) Welcome indy. You must like the colour RED!!

not really, one will be grey very soon if I have my way ;)

I would be interested to know if you fellas have a preference for front tire size? I will be keeping one of these and my buddy will be buying the other. I am leaning towards the 16s over the 19s at the moment.

I dont like the look of the 19s, thats because my grandfathers that i used to drive as a kid had ther 16 on it. I recon the 16s make ot look a better tractor

well the 49 TE20 is home and off the trailer. it had some green luquid in the tank that looked like antifreeze but its not, stabil? I removed tank n cleaned it. charged the battery and cleaned the contacts in the distributor. I have fuel to the carb but it wont run, it does start on starting fluid and runs. the 3point arms came up so the hydraulics seem to be working. Will tear the carb down soon. has a cool hood stop attached to the front of the gas tank. I noticed there are two very different starters in these tractors only one year apart, the distributors are different as well. they are both Z120 continentals.

the foot pads on the steering brakes are much larger on the 49 too. its missing the long pin on the center link mount. will look for it here.

will take some pics of the hood stop, haven't seen one like it before, maybe its common, don't know

no luck cleaning the carb on the 49 TE20 so I pulled the carb off the 48 TE20 and swapped it out. The 49 started immediately. runs smoother than the rebuilt 48.

Update. Both TE20s are running and i have used them both. Need to find some things yet like tie rod ends and need to find a rebuild option for the steering box. A new carb off fleabay made the 48 fire right up after i stole its carb for the 49.

One question, how do i fight the urge to buy more and more of these?

No you cant have that custom front grill the 48 is sporting! ( I know you guys are jealous :p )

Welcome, Indy! Interesting looking grill on the first one.

I got bit by the Fergie bug while out looking for an 8N some years ago. My 52 TEA20 just kinda followed me home. I've got the Standard motor. I may be wrong but I get the feeling Standard vs Continental was decide more by the export country? I'm in Canada.

Good luck with them!

gotta love the grandma's doily pattern. it was actually well made and serves its purpose.

I love them, hard to believe they will turn in a circle in under 20ft.

rebuilt my hay tent after it burned, who knew both would tuck right inside. color me happy

Umm ... can't you do even better than that using the single rear brake pedal?

- TS

indeed I could but I was only commenting on the sharp turning radius ;)

You don't. You just give in. Well, unless the checkbook doesn't allow it. So far I only have one, but maybe that will change someday.

Great pictures.
