no fuel thru the carburetor

Ok I'm new here and to forums in general. I'm not an expert mechanic but I'm not a novice either. I'm having issues with my new to me Fergie TO20. Had sat for a number of years. It's not getting fuel into the combustion chamber. Starts and runs when bottle fed. I'm using a temp fuel tank, fuel shut off and inline filter. Needle and seat are ok fuel bowl approximately 2/3 to 3/4 full. Disassembled TSX361 carburetor completely (left throttle and choke butterfly in tact) Soaked in carburetor cleaner. Rinsed in cleaning solvent. Compressed air dry. All passages passing air either compressor or blowing (lungs). Hand over the air inlet getting suction when turning over. I can rebuild with a kit but quite frankly I'm puzzled why it's not functional now. Other than being used all the parts appear to be in good condition. Oh and I had preset the carb to the recommended main and idle screw settings and then tried different settings with out success. I hope someone can give me some insight as to what's going on with this. I appreciate the help. Thank you

Those are simple carbs, not a whole lot to go wrong. That it won't run at all indicates either there isn't fuel in the bowl, or the main jet circuit is blocked.

There is a plug in the bottom of the bowl. With the fuel valve from the tank open, remove the plug, see what kind of flow you have. It should have full flow , then slow to a trickle as the bowl empties. It should continue to trickle, not slow to a drip or stop. If you get poor or no flow, check for a cloged screen in the fitting where the fuel line comes into the carb.

If there is good flow from the bowl, revisit the main fuel circuit. All fuel passes through the main jet. If there is fuel in the bowl, and no fuel getting through the carb, it has to be a main circuit blockage, or missing parts. Any possibility the tip of the main adjusting screw is broken off in the main jet?

The inline filter may be your problem. There are some previous posts of us using the wrong filter and having the same problem. Make sure you have a gravity feed filter, not one meant for a fuel pump. I would recommend either the 1/4" or 5/16" inlet and outlet. Or just make sure the glass owl one from the tank is good

Manifold is solid. Per my original post ... with hand over the intake tube seems to be pulling sufficient vacuum. Thank you

First let me THANK EVERYONE for their replies and suggestion. It did get me to go back and revisit a few different exploded views of the TSX361A carburetor. Here what I found. It seems some of the diagrams appear to differ. I found there is a "power jet" item 37 in the Feguson parts manual installed below the "main nozzle" item 35. The thing that threw me is they don't visually show it assembled like that in their parts manual. And I had neglected to install the fiber washer under the main needle spring. So to sum it up ... parts went back in the carb cleaner and I will install the fiber washer during the reassembly and give it another go.

I had read the post and replies to "not getting fuel to the spark plugs" and had got a lot of good information but really hadn't found the answers I was looking for. Anyway if you're interested I'll post the results of the next step as soon as it's completed. Thanks again guys.

Thank you Tom. In my situation the inline filter doesn't seem to cause a problem. When I disassembled the carb the bowl was 2/3 to 3/4 full.

Thanks Steve. Your third paragraph got me going back over the ground that I had previously covered. In the process finding the "power jet" it wasn't completely blocked because I had air checked all passages but I do think it might have been restricted. Back in the carb cleaner it went and like I mentioned my error on the washer below the main needle spring. Keepin my fingers crossed but I think it should fly this time around.

I think that would be correct for a slow feeding filter. You should be full minus the displacement of the float. The problem I had was the inline filter was clogging from tank sediment enough to slow the flow and stall out the engine.

Success ... Ok so I missed removing the "power jet" item 37. After removing the power jet and soaking it in the carb cleaner along with the bowl that seemed to do it. Previously air was passing thru the power jet but was still restricted. Once clean properly it was fine. I reassembled everything including the gasket under the main needle spring reinstalled the carb on the Ferg and it popped right off. Now I'll continue with the TLC required to bring it back from the years of use and storage to bring it back to respectability. Again Thank you ALL for the help. I'd only hope maybe there will come a time that I might be of some help to you.

If you're interested this will be a hobbyist tractor with loader. I want use it at the shed for cleanup in the woods and various chores around the shed in the near future.

Best regards
Bob
