TO35 What size pulley for alternator

I just finished up the new gauges on my Green belly. Replaced non functioning alternator with new one with the tach drive, reused the old pulley, but, it turns the tach drive too fast. I have read that some have put on a 4" pulley. Is this correct or is there another size.

Four inch sounds about right.

Do you have the original generator? That pulley "might" fit the alternator.

No, it came with a one wire alternator that I replaced to have the tach drive. Hooked up at idle it is pushing over 1000 on the tach which I know is wrong. Found a pulley on another site 4-1/2 inches replacement for the 35.
