hupp transmission

A family member borrowed my 1952 TO-30 and I got it back broken(insert appropriate groan). Long story shortened, does anyone know a source for parts to fit a Hupp Dual Drive Transmission? I need the clutch shaft #505016 and the overdrive cover #505017. If parts aren't readily available, does anyone know where I can find the drive train components to remove this transmission altogether and return it to the manufactured configuration? Without this thing there is about a fifteen inch gap between the clutch and the transmission. JP.

you could contact Smith's Old Ford Tractors - http://www.oldfordtractors.com/index.html - there's information on the Hupp there, and he might be able to steer you somewhere if he can't help directly -

I can tell you the input shaft from a Ford 9N, 2N, 8N(I believe) TO-20 and TO-30 will substitute that Hupp trans. That shaft is what is removed when installing the Hupp or Sherman trans.Your best bet, if you desire the over/under feature, either find the Hupp with the updated 4 spline shaft or the Sherman. Hupps on flea bay are a bit more rare than a Sherman. Get an input shaft and drop that in while you search for parts or another trans. Need more info? Lets see if I can source my last Hupp post...
"...Well then you get to split the tractor. This can be done easy enough. I did mine on gravel with a sheet of plywood down, a bottle jack to hold up the engine section, wedges to keep it from tilting on the center axle section and a rolling floor jack to get the trans section to slide back.
Reassembly can be eased a bit with long 3/8 X 16 bolts with the heads cut off to make guide pins. As for the Hupp, removal of that requires pulling off the nose cone. If your tractor has a top speed of about 25 MPH, you have the high range combo Hupp and removal is not a problem once you get the nose cone off. The bolts at the rear are an Allen wrench design and I believe they are 5/16 size. If your Hupp equipped tractor has a top speed of about 15 MPH then removal is a bit trickier as the rear gear hides the Allen bolts from plain view. To remove those, you rotate the gear around until the pre-cut notches in the gear align with the bolt heads allowing access for removal.
If you keep a watch out on flea bay you might find one and yes, they will fit into a Home Depot plastic bucket that can be filled with oil for preservation. Typical Hupp goes about 1/2 price of a Sherman. If your Hupp is the newer design, the input and output shafts have 4 splines. The original design had 2 splines cut into the shaft.
The original design was also prone to hanging up between ranges when shifting and a pita to get unstuck.
I quit for now. Two fingers have had enough fun for the time being.

thanks for the info regarding the Ford compatibility. There is a tractor salvage/parts place not too far away that will likely have what I need. JP.

Hopefully you can call the salvage yard for a price before you go. I should have one of those
floating around here somewhere. If his price is nut's let me know. The wife will be happy to see
something else leaving from around here and she keeps hinting at the scrap trailer not being fully
loaded. I will be out of town for the next 2 days so if you desire this hit the email link and I can
get this sent off on the way out of town.
