First post hello

I've been enjoying the forums for a bit over a week now. I made a deal with my neighbor for a TO-30 with a grader blade and brush hog. He let me have the tractor last week. It's a 12v conversion, so my first drill was a new battery, a new hold down and new cables. Clean the air intake, service the oil bath and grease it all over. The tractors oils are like new and someone's rebuilt the 129 as it's very quiet, pulls great and pops off on the first round.
The leveling box was frozen, but now freed. Either the pinion shaft or fork is worn. I'll take comments on the replacement leveling box here on the parts list. The left lift arm has been welded top and bottom so it will need replaced sometime.
Tonight I got the blade hooked up. My first order of work was to start ditching the driveway.
I'll post a few pics for all to see.

Sounds as you are another very lucky owner. Are you able to tell what that serial tag really shows as far as the serial number? To me seeing it in the picture it looks like 5351 which would make it a 1949 Ferguson TO 20. Regardless it is still a great tractor. Just curious!!!!

I didn't scrape up the previous owner did that, I'm pretty sure it's 15351 though. Look left of the 5 and you can see the stamped 1.

I was trying to make myself decide if that was a 1 or a bad scratch as I think it is longer than a 1. The TO 30 did not start until 1951 with serial number 60001. Miner if your book shows 1950 TO 30 get rid of that book. LOL

Welcome to the forum, my first thoughts are its # is 5351. Also to help decide if it's a TO-20 or a TO-30 there are some easy ways. Is the air
intake screen on the top right of the dash? If so its a TO-30. If the air intake screen is on top of the canister its a TO-20. Is there an external oil
filter canister? If so its a TO-30. If the oil filter is inside the oilpan its a TO-20. Let's us know, John

Is it possible to get a good picture of the whole dash? Also what is your engine serial tag showing for a serial number and the Z 120 or Z 129? Sometimes this last digit needs to be really cleaned to tell for sure if it is a 0 or a 9, the same as the first 4 CAST digits below the engine oil dipstick.

Richard I thought you were going to throw your book away. LOL My book shows that the TO 20 and 30 where built using same serial #'s together. Guess same assembly line. Then in 51 thur 54 only 30's were built. Who knows. But if we get picture of dash(30) and it's 15351 then I keep my book. If it's wrong I'll seen you your Xmas present. LOL

The parts book shows that the leveling assembly parts from the TO20-30 are the same. There are 2 different pinion shaft lengths listed, a little
over 9 1/2 inches on one and 14 inches on the other. The lift arms are the same for the TO-20 and TO-30. Also listed in the parts manual it
says that the ford 9N-2N are the same lift arms.

Welcome to the gang. We will be your friends if you send money.
I would not testify in court with that serial number tag- so show us a pic of the oil filter. On the bottom, a 20, on the side of the block, a 30. On the right of the dash of a 30 is a big screened opening.
Get the owner and repair manuals and you will be fine.
Don't pay attention to Richard and Miner, they musta got into the Canadian beer again....

Ok here are some pictures. I'm pretty sure it's a 30. Air intake on the dash, oil filter behind the alternator which by the way looks like it's got to come off to change the element. Engine casting looks like Z129A600.
See photos

One thing I noticed on the exhaust side picture,
My old TO35 has a metal plate or heat shield located between the fuel tank and the exhaust manifold, I do not know if a TO30 came with one or
not?
My neighbors TO30 does not have one, may have been taken off years ago and thrown away, who knows,

However, he said, "his tractor will boil the gas in the tank when plowing or using the tractor for longer periods of time,
This may be normal, I do not know, I have never heard the gas boil in my tractor tank even when plowing or pulling hard,
Might be worth checking it out,

Nice looking old tractor,

Maxwell, I think those heat shields were a 2 or 3 dollar option- that some people weren't going to splurge for. I ain't going to mention any names, but I know people nowdays who wouldn't spend an extra 2 or 3 bucks.
So 320, where are you at? Can you get to the show in Missouri next week?
BTW, no doubt it is a TO30. I like the throttle keeper too. Another 2 dollar accessory few people wanted to pay for..

Tony I am west of Tulsa OK. I don't think we will make the show as we're still building the house and hate to miss a days work at this time. That said I'll see what the week brings, if we did it would be a up and back thing.
If I could locate a dirt scoop up that way at a good price maybe I could grab it and swing through the show. As I'll not have a front end loader in my near future that will be my next purchase.

I have a dirt scoop like the attached picture, a ford model, they are heavy made and work good, can dump both ways forward and back.
poor man's front end loader, till he can get one.

I also have a rock rake, does good work leveling the drive way and some use it turned around backwards to loosen and level the garden soil in the spring.

box blade, I use it more than the blade,

Oh come on... I am in the swamps near Hugo, and Mickey- miner09- is south of Paris TX. Steve B is west of you by a day!
The show is only a few minutes off 44 this side of Springfield.
Yeah, just call the show a shopping trip, takes the pain out of it. If nothing else, we'll pay a Texan to steal you a dirt scoop. So bring money and Shiner beer.
