on my 35's there are two "J" hooks that hold the hood down. take those two hooks off and the hood tilts forward almost like a 20 or 30.

the hood on the 50 has six (?) screws that fasten the good to the dash. will the hood tilt if I remove those screws. is there anything I can do to make the hood tilt?

thanks.

never doubted what you said. I need to replace the thermostat and I was hoping not to remove the hood in the process.

thinking it is not opening. no water circulation in radiator after water gets hot. pump is working.

The hood is very easy to remove. Take the six screws out dash then remove two front bolts and slide chin piece off. Take light wires apart coming from switch. With someone on each side hood lift off. I think you can replace thermostat without removing hood.

If the gauge is reading less than hot, and you aren't boiling over... just keep an eye on it.
Remember another one of murphy's laws- 'the best way to break something is to fix something that ain't broke'.
Hey if it ain't running hot now, it will be just fine in firewood season...

it cooked over when driving it to our cabin. temp gauge went up to 200 and then settled back down to app. 180 for the rest of the 2 miles. it cooked over the next day so I checked for water flow (none) and then let it sit.

I am hoping it is nothing more serious than the thermostat.

oooooh. Too bad that didn't happen before you paid him. Bringing the radiator to a shop is easier on a 30 or 35, but let's hope it's the therm. I don't usually put em back in. That's what cardboard infront of the radiator was invented for.

after the tractor came off the trailer we stood around and "yakked" for about 20 min while the tractor sat there and idled. ten minutes later while I was driving it it cooked over. luck of the draw I guess.

I will also check out the radiator for gunk in it.
