Working on the TO35

Got a chance to do some work on the TO35 today.

About twice a year she comes out of retirement to do some serious mowing at the company deer hunting camp. I usually don't go, so it needs to be running good before being turned over to to "whoever" to do the mowing! LOL

Earlier this year they came back complaining the governor wasn't right. I had tried to adjust it before by the IT manual, thought I had it right, but looking at it today, it wasn't...

So today I got out the manual and tried again. Still don't know what I'm reading wrong, but when I finally put the book down and did what worked, I got the governor working better than it ever has!

The problem was getting the link from the carb to the governor arm the right length. When I did it by the book, the link was way too short, the governor was out of it's travel range. So, I took the link loose, started it up and controlled the RPM by hand while feeling and watching the governor arm work. Once I determined the travel of the governor, I matched the length of the link to the governor lever. I was then able to set the max speed with the U bolt clamp.

All seems well now, adjusted the carb, checked the fluid levels, oiled the generator. The valve cover is leaking a little, but that's for another day.

Hope it works well, I'll know next week when they get back!
