bent leveling box arm

I pulled apart the levelling box after grinding away the roll pin of the 1950s to dismantle the levelling box.

I had to cut the leveling box shaft just below the hosing to remove it from the housing.

The shaft will not screw down past the level mark on the shaft, I believe this is due to the slight bend in it.....

I was going to straighten the shaft then weld back together. But now that the shaft is cut its very hard by eye to see the shaft bend.

Wondering if i would ever get it straight enough to screw all the way down...

I know i can buy a new one, which is the way i was leaning.....but thought i would see if anyone has tried this...

You are becoming a poster child for torches!!!
Really, if it has a bow at the threads, almost impossible to get perfect again. It is a replaceable thing - as a rod, or a unit... sometimes almost the same price, so shop around...
!!!! and there were atleast 2 or 3 versions over the years- so double check!

mine was bent i straightened it on 4x4's. sandwich between with high side up and pound top 4x4 with mini sledge AKA BFH. You can try a lead or brass hammer. lay brass or lead hammer on high spot and hit backside with mini sledge.

Ended up buy a new one $20 easier than rewelding and then straightening.

For anyone wanting to do this. I had to grind the pin holding the handle in then punch it out, the end with the metal flatten out so the pin will not fall out is the end that needs grinding , then you punch it out from this side.

Once thats out easy as, clean up regrease reassemble.

happy days and smooth lifting.
