Hello good folks.
I got curious about something. I have always thought the Ferguson 40, and the MH / MF 50 was more or less the same tractor, a little different sheet metal, but mechanical very close.
Today I looked at TractorData, and there I see something I never thought about. I do not say the TractorData has it right, but anyway, it appears that the Ferguson 40 only came with one Continental engine, and that the Massey Harris 50 came with three engines, the same as the F-40, but also a "fume" engine, and 3 cylinder Perkins diesel engine.
So, now I got really curious. Why not the 4 cylinder, since the US made MF 35 came with the 23C engine, and later with the 3 cylinder Perkins.
Can any of you educated people enlighten me a little in this ? Can a F-40 be fitted with a diesel engine ?
Bill
