Ferguson 40 Hydraulic Problems

I have a Ferguson 40 tractor.I believe it is a 1957.Am having trouble with hydraulics, very slow and not much lifting power. My son in law found your forums and sent a page explaining how to change and get to an MF-35 hydraulic filter so I thought it may be similar to mine. However, when I removed the round plate as explained I found no filter. When I move the hydraulic control lever there is very little movement of the linkage at the pump.Does anybody know of adjustments I could make to solve this problem?
Thank You

Yep older models didn't have the filter, an 'MF35' would, most marked 'TO35' wouldn't. Probably 1958 or 9 was the start of filters in there.
So you need a manual that shows the long gone marks on both quadrants. In general, there is a 'sweet spot' between 2 punch marks on the outside one- see if you can find them first.

There is very little movement of the link at the valve. There is an adjustment of the linkage.

But before adjusting anything, get a flash light and look up through the round inspection port. With the position control lever in the raise position, a load on the 3 point, and the engine idled up, look for oil pouring down from the back of the lift cylinder. Some oil leaking is normal, but not a large stream. A large leak indicates bad seal rings on the piston.

There is also a stand pipe that carries oil from the pump to the cylinder. It has orings at top and bottom. Oil coming down the pipe or swirling up from below is a sign of leaking orings. The orings are replaceable by removing the small cover above the pipe.

And here is a pressure relief valve on the back of the pump. If oil is swirling around there, the relief valve is bad.

If the 3 point is moving slowly and jerking, the valves in the pump are bad, a common problem.

If everything listed here looks good, and putting the draft control lever between the dots doesn't fix it, get back to us for adjustment procedures.

Thanks for the info,I'll try these suggestions and let you know what I can figure out.I'm not experienced with this sort of work but I'm going to give it a try.
