can some please tell me what to do? converting 6v to 12v everything is 12 volt but distributor which is 6v what kind of
resistor do i need between dis and ignition do i need? just
bought new 12v coil which is 2.2 ohms across plus and minus
terminals. thanks very much.............

Distributor, points and condenser don't care if system is 6 or 12 volts.

Points and coil do care that current through the system is limited to about 4 amps to prevent burning points and overstressing coil.

Normal 6 volt coil should measure about 1.5 ohms across primary, direct 12 volt (no resistor required) usually measures about 3 ohms across the primary. A 1.5 ohm resistor can be added between ignition switch and coil input to give 3 ohms total on 6 volt coil in 12 volt system.

Your 2.2 ohm coil poses a puzzle as it is in between 1.5 and 3. I suspect you may not be adjusting for some resistance in the meter probes. Short the meter probes together and check the reading, then check across + and - on coil. Now subtract probe reading from coil reading and this will be actual coil resistance. I suspect you have a 1.5 ohm coil and are seeing some added probe resistance. If so you will need an added resistor of about 1.5 ohms.
