volt meter wiring

I tried using the search for information but never found any i could use . I am replacing all my gauges in a TO-35 with the continental gas engine. I want to replace the amp gauge with a volt meter. How do i wire it in ? I know it's different than an amp gauge. It's a 1959 model , 12 volt system , no lights or any thing to pull power accept the engine and a small spray tank pump. JIM

First, the 2 (or more) wires on the back of the existing amp meter need to be securely connected together, either by clipping the ends and soldering the wires together or connecting them with a screw and nut, and insulating them.

Then install the volt meter, connect the positive lead of the meter to the switched "ignition" side of the ignition switch, connect the negative lead of the meter to a chassis ground.

Great , I knew how to correctly take care of the existing amp wire just was not sure of where to connect the positive wire on the volt meter, thanks . JIM
