TEA20 radiator drain tap broken

Hi Guys i have the radiator off the tractor. Went to undo the drain tap at the bottom as it is seized so not much use for draining water.

Undid the bolt on the tap that holds it in the bottom of the radiator and whatever it threads into has broken. So the tap is loose but will not come out... Anyone come across this.

I am thinking I will cut of the tap and probably drill out the broken bits and either block it up of retap it??

I can't picture exactly how that is made, assuming there is a 1/4" female thread fitting soldered into the bottom of the radiator?

If so, being that is a TEA, British built, it probably has BSTP thread instead of NPT thread.

British 1/4" pipe thread is 19 pitch, National is 18 pitch. Be sure you use the correct tap and fitting! Either will screw in there, but it will damage the threads and leak.

The bottom tank can be unsoldered PCP , a fiddly but not difficult job . This way you could get to the soldered nut on the inside that the bolt screws into and repair it properly .
I don't have a picture of the bottom tank off , but the process is exactly the same as the top .

I ended up cuting the tap of and remove the soldered on piece.

Very hard to solder back on reliably. So thinking i will just plug the hole, its 20 to 30mm diameter. Or fit and aftermarket tap, but there is not much to fix it to around the hole?

I did not take the bottom of the tank off so have no access from the inside.
