TO35 broke cam

Got a 1955 to35 gas engine. Replacing the governor tightening the nut and the end of the cam broke. Anybody have and tricks to replacing the cam without removing the engine?

I have never seen a TO 35 or am aware of the design of the Cam and associated Cam followers and Push Rods.

However, I have replaced many Camshafts ( e.g. Waukesha, Climax )by removing the Pushrods and then placing an O-RING around the CAM Followers/ Tappets to prevent them from dropping into the oil Pan. Then removing the Camshaft:

Only a thought:

Bob..

With the rocker arms off and push rods out I think the mushroom tappets would stay up, but it would need to be done from below after the pan is off. Not sure if they can be pulled up from above very easily. Cam is cast iron, ends can snap off easily. Continental repair books say to never pull the cam gear in place, for example as the end will break off. Make sure you get another Z134 cam too, I think a Z145 will fit but the distributor drive tooth count is changed. Z134 had nine distributor teeth, Z145 used ten.

Did the same thing on my TO30. Had to hold the lifters up while sliding the new camshaft in. Just need to remove the oil pan.

Bummer! I did that to a forklift once zapping the nut on with an impact.

Never actually done it, but I would try clothes pins to hold them up.

If not enough O rings #32 rubber bands might work if you can get at the lifters. Never tried it on a Fergy.

Well, disregard the close pin idea, don't know what I was thinking! LOL

Not sure how you are going to hold them up to get the cam out, but once they are out grease would hold them up.
