TO-35 Axle oil seal repalcement

Anyone have any experience removing the axle shaft collars and replacing the seals? I have a leaker. According to what I read, this appears to be challenging, especially trying to get a new red hot collar to make it all the way to the hub without stopping on the way....

Did my TO-35 Standard diesel last summer, both sides. And yes it's not a fun job. The MF store I worked at there was a heavy pipe used to seat the dull red collar against the bearing. After the assembly cooled we used a grease gun needle to fill the tapered bearing between the rollers. Collar needs to be hot enough to seat against the bearing, and not stick to the shaft before it's down in place.

Is there a stop for the collar, or is it pressed until it won't go any further? If I'm not mistaken, my hubs have some slop, as if the collars moved inward toward the differential.

The bearing is the solid stop for the shrink fit collar. I've seen a sudden side shock load knock the bearing and collar out of place in the past though on an old MF forklift I used to have, actually happened twice..

Last question - once red-hot, will a press still need to be used to get the collars down, or can a pipe / hammer be used to tap the collar (quickly!) down the shaft? No way my press can press that far, and the time in-between to set up to press further is too long.

So I have the old collars off. Can't get the %$#%#$^ bearing off. I have it in a press, but I don't want to put a lot of pressure on the hub casting. I've even heated the bearing race to expand it while under press pressure. Nothing. Any suggestions? It's an expensive bearing, so I'd like to be able to reuse it.

Got one off - just needed a little more pressure. Can't get the other off. I think I know why. My press is out of square. Probably pressing the axle at an angle and binding the bearing on the shaft. Off to someone who has a straight press.....
