Governor setup tea20

Hi all.

Wanting to check governor operation, to eliminate running problems

When i open the throttle half way it seems to hesitate and at that time the governor lever moves back towards the carby and it runs rough. Is this correct as i would think the governor would only operate under load.

Did you try adjusting carburetor. If it's running rough this may be the problem.
Governor will not make it run rough.Open air about 1/4 - 1/2 turns--fuel large (knob)should be about 1 1/2 turns. If it idles OK then adjust fuel a little at a time until it runs OK when throttle is open all the way.

The governor reacts to engine speed. When the engine hesitates/misfires the RPM drops slightly, the governor
opens the throttle to compensate for the RPM loss. It doesn't know why the engine speed changed, it just
tries to correct it.

The mixture could be a little lean. If partial choke helps, try enriching the main jet.

Also check the points gap, check for wear in the distributor shaft bushings. Bad bushings will cause the
point gap to change at different speeds causing hesitation, misfire.

Have the air screw set right at idle speed. Cannot stop the hesitation when opening the throttle, Have tried many settings with the mixture.

Tony will post pixs of governor spring, set it up yesterday as per jonh (uk) notes. but did not make any difference.

Ok replaced the coil which was causing the throttle accleration problem hence gov doing its thing.

With the new coil the gov'na is doing whats it is suppose to

Anyway good to play with the governor to see how it all works.

However my throttle lever is at about 1230 on a clock when in the idle position. Is this adjust at the spring near the battery, or on the u-bolt on the throttle rod?

IT does not seem to return to its idle speed of 450, think i set the governor to carby connection the wrong way or there is some wear somewhere

Hi

I need help to set up my governor at present the previous owner had put a rod from the linkage to next to the driver and said to give it a wiggle if the engine starts to die. I tried to contact John(UK) a few weeks ago but no reply as yet.
Can some one send me his set up please?

Thanks

Ian

Hi cophian

Can send you johns setup info. Its pretty much what is in the manual. I could not see an option to pm. Can you send me a pm?

Pete

Sounds like those springs are the prime suspects, yours and the next post. Compare what you have to pics in a manual, you tubes, or just go thru the archives on this forum. Heaps of people have issues with the cork pad under the dash, but your problem is the other end. That's why pictures say a 1000 words... (ancient aboriginal saying????)

If the springs are bad where do you get replacements?
