1958 TO-35 Diesel PTO Shaft Removal

Great Guru's

Rebuilding my '58 TO-35. Have the differential case apart, axles out, trumpets off, differential out etc. - how does one remove the PTO shaft? I have the bearing retainer off, is rust and age holding it in, or is there additional parts that have to be removed?

Looking at the exploded diagrams, I don't see anything at the business end, but I see a pin in the sleeve at the trans end. Not sure if this has to come out first.....

Thanks or all yer help. And there will be more questions coming in the near future as I tear this thing down.

After you take bolts out it should pull out. On the bearing retainer(?) there is a cut
away on each side that you can take large pliers and turn retainer to free it as you
turn- then it will come out. It's just tight.

You can put a large screwdriver through the hole in the PTO shaft and then use a pry bar between the screwdriver and the housing to pry it out. The large O-ring is probably just stuck.

Attach a prop shaft to the pto in the regular way and use that as a slide hammer or as a leverage point . The pto is being held in by a tightly fitting rubber ring .
