start button pin help

I dropped my pin that connects my start button with the shift lever into the transmission. I have three questions.

1. Will the pin in the transmission hurt anything? I don't want to split the tractor if there is plenty of clearance and won't tear anything up. It dropped straight down in the hole where the start button goes.

2. What is the pin part number? It's the pin that has a cotter pin to hold it on the start button plate and looks like a small clevis pin.

3. Where can I get one?

If this is on a TO/20/30 it did not go into the transmission it went into the bell housing. If it is not on the TO/20/30 I am sure someone else will help you especially if you let them know what model you are working on.

It's a TO20. If it is in the bell housing can I get it through the cover on the bottom behind the flywheel?

You mean the cover that bolts to the bell housing in front of the flywheel?
Answer is maybe. If the pin fell all the way to the bottom of the bell housing and didn't get hung up in the clutch pressure plate, there may be enough room between the flywheel & bell housing to fish it out. If you remove the cover & don't see the pin, bump the motor over a few times to try and get the pin to fall out of the clutch.

Take the 6 bolts out of that plate then remove plate then using a flexible magnetic rod you may be able to retrieve the clip. If you dropped the clip in the hole where the start button is installed I can't believe there will be any problem as the plate should stop the clip from getting to the flywheel. However I can't guarantee this.

Thanks, I haven't been able to see it yet. I have to put some things back together to bump it over. That hole is so hard to see into both from the bottom under the cover behind the flywheel and from the top.

Thinking out of the box. Never tried this but how about one of those magnetic cards people stick on their refrigerators? Put a small hole in each end with a piece of string in each hole and tip the card down into the cavity keeping the magnetic side down. Move it around and see if the pin will jump up to the card. IT MAY WORK. Using one string in each hand you can manuver it around a little I hope. The following was in the archives, a great thing to learn to use. Maybe you might find something in this link.
