Ha guys.

I add grease with oil about a year agoin the steering box and it still leaks, I just drained it and it is like runny honey, so not quiet thick enough.

Was going to do the corm head grease in the steering to see if that stops the leak, But at $40 for that amount of grease want to check the bushes as i beleive if these are stuffed even with new seals it will still leak out the seals?

I can move the drop arm in and out but not up and down, does that tell me anything?

cheers

Try adjusting the freeplay in the steering box , this will stop the in and out movement of the drop arms and may help stem at least some of the leak . This is easy to do , raise the front wheels off the ground , loosen the big lock nuts on the side of the steering box and gently screw in the slotted grub screw until the slopp is taken out . Don't overdo it , tighten just enough so you can feel the slightest of gaps between the steering wheel turning and the steering arms moving .
You did change the seals ? Newer replacements can be put on from the outside if you grind off the lugs on the arms , just don't tell the purists or they will hang you !
The 'honey' will still be ok , just add more grease and less oil , or use graphite grease and oil . This tends to stay a little firmer I use this mixture in the belt pulley as well as the front hubs .

Ha Charles good to hear from you.

Yep aware of bobs posts re grinding of to fit the seals. wonder how many comments i ll get

No i have not fitted new seals yet, would like to see a photo of the bits ground off.

Priced 2.5 KG of grease NGL 0 grease ( corn head) $55 or $40 for standard grease..

You mentioned graphite grease, night see what that costs :D

The drop arms with lugs ground off .

Ok pumped grease into the steering box, man that was a messy job. Adjusted the screws near the drop arms, but to stop the drop arms movement in and out it would cause the steering to become very stiff, so i assume there is no real adjustment left, so will see how it goes regarding the leaking

Try uneven adjustment , that is tighter on one side than the other . This is a fiddly and time consuming job to get right but sometimes works. The gears often wear more on one side than the other , so adjusting both set screws evenly will result in too tight one side too loose the other . It is a matter of feel and trial and error .
