can't figure out charging problem

So my electrical nightmare continues. I still can't figure out way my TO20 won't charge. The old generator wouldn't hold a polarity so I have a rebuilt one that bench test fine. I also replaced the voltage regulator and it bench test fine. I rewired the generator to voltage regulator and to ignition switch. Swapped the battery out of my uncle's 52 Chevy since I know that's good (and new). Still it won't charge. Any thoughts on what I'm missing.

It's still 6 volt positive ground.

I just had a problem with charging on my TO35 and I found out the two wires that run from the generator to the voltage regulator were shorting out changed those wires an it charges fine might be worth checking. Randy

Have you recently painted the tractor? If the generator or regulator aren't grounding to the tractor through new paint that might be your problem.

You might try taking a short section of wire with alligator clip on one end and open wire on the other and connecting the clip to the 'A' terminal of
the genny and then just touch the 'Bat' connection on the VR. You will get a spark, but don't hold the wire there, just touch it. See if that helps.
Make sure you connect to the A term, not to FLD.

Gave up and had local tractor repair shop look at it. I must of misread wiring diagram. Apparently it was wired for a volt meter but had a dummy light. So it wss shorting out voltage regulators. They wired it so the light comes on with the ignition and stays on. Might get a voltmeter in the future so I know if it's charging or not.
