Ferguson 40 3 point

I just bought a F-40 and the 3 point stays up as long as the engine is running or the clutch is not pressed down completely no matter where the quadrant levers are positioned. The top cover is not original, and has a weld on the back end where the top link attaches. There seems to be no play in the control spring plunger.
I will probably need to pull the top cover and check to see if they
installed it correctly, could you advise on what the control lever assembly's should look like, or where they should be, etc?
thank you

Before taking the top cover off, open the round cover on the right side. That is where the raise/lower
linkage actuates the control valve. If someone had the cover off, they may have not gotten the linkage back
where it belongs on the control valve.

There is a lever extending from the controls above that pushes on a spool. You can push the lever to the
side and hand control the spool to manually raise and lower the lift. Just be careful not to reach too far
in there with it running! Or extend the lift too high and damage something!

The lever from above moves very little, and the adjustment is touchy. There is a self locking nut where the
valve lever hinges, down below the oil level. Hopefully someone will post a picture, that will explain it
better.
