the hyd. lift drifts down on my trailer queen 35. I'd like to replace the standpipe in the hopes of an easy quick fix. if that does not work .......buggers.

anyway my question is what can I do to keep the wrench from taking paint off the bolts/nuts?

thanks.

There used to be automotive companies (like Eastwood) who sold plastic inserts for sockets to help them not tear off paint from bolt heads or nuts. Found this snap-on set on ebay:

Not cheap.

Gotta be other companies that'll provide them at less cost....

I was thinking of using paper towel or patch of cloth but was hoping someone had a better idea..........

Does the lift not hold position when the engine is running or are you saying it drifts down with the engine off? Can you raise an implement at all?

How fast does it fall after the engine is off and with how much weight on it? They will all drift down when the engine is off, faster if the oil is hot.

Dan

faster than it should. I will not spend much time with it. the standpipe is about as far as I will go. no fix? I will leave it be.

You should be able to open the side cover and look in, see if the orings are leaking.

Take the covers off, have a flashlight ready, raise it up with some weight on it, shut it off, look for leaks. There will be some oil leaking around the piston, that is only an iron ring seal, and depending on the condition of the bore, even new they leak a little.

If the stand pipe upper oring is leaking that will be obvious. Look for oil boiling up from around the lower one.

Hey friends, finally getting a chance to work on my own 1955 TO-35. The 3 point sinks as soon as you step on the clutch or shut the engine off, and I finally got the chance to open up the inspection covers on the side of the transmission. What do I look for here? I took a quick glance at it last night with an implement raised and engine running. All I saw was some cavitation at the front of the pump where I assume some moving parts were operating. I couldn't see much at all under the top cover, there appears to be a large gear in the way.

I don't really need to use the lift right now as all my spring and summer use is with a finish mower. Is it acceptable to run the tractor with fluid only up the level of the bottom of the inspection plates? This way I wouldn't have to seal it back up and refill to mow, then drain it partially when ready to work on it again. I'm currently using GL1 90w oil.
