TEF20 starter issue and a couple observations about a TEA20

Having lots of trouble trying to find a new starter drive for my TEF20. Any links or places to try? My local starter shop is a Lucas dealer and had no luck.

Recently been stripping down my tea 20, full rebuild is underway, though recently delayed as all the motor parts that showed up were for a standard motor not the continental. As I clean it, I'm finding the underside is yellow, was this just primer? Not found anywhere else out other than pictured.

Bob..

You said you are stripping down a TEA 20 and the parts that showed up were for a Standard not a Continental. If I were working on a TEA 20 I would want Standard Motor parts showing up not Continental. So what is your problem?

Richard L is right Tom, a Canadian TEA20 ... should ...have been built with Lucas Electric, The TO's, with Continentals, were built with Delco Remi electrics. If you have a well stocked lucas shop in town, he should be able to rebuild the one in the photo , and see if he can match a proper starter to the block holes and flywheel teeth for the other. New Lucas is expensive if not impossible to find in the states. I know the Std diesels are different, but if someone before you switched things around- all bets are off....

Well the problem is my Te20, not sure why my phone changed everything to tea, has a continental z120 engine. Lucas starter, distributor, and generator. According to the shop manual I have this is all correct for my serial number,28652. The motor serial number I think is 32299.
It also matches the original owners manual I recently acquired.
It's very possible the motor was swapped, but I bought it from the original owner who said it had been rebuild twice before which makes sense as the crank had already been ground .20 undersized. His understanding was it was the original block.

Tony, checked with the Lucas dealer,he was
saying most of the older Lucas stuff is
going MIA. the starter itself is fine, I
just need the actual drive end,I replaced
the ring gear and I'm going to destroy it if
I don't replace the gear. I turned the
armature and replaced the brushes already on
the starter motor.

So someone somewhere 'may' have swapped things around. Even if it is HF made, see if a Delco Remi starter or just the gear, Bendix, whatever you need will fit, just be carefull the teeth don't wipe each other out.

Well the starter is correct, the standard
diesel used Lucas parts. I'm going to have
to try Sparex or Agriline and see if they
can get the bendix. Need to make a move as
it'll be plow day at the local club soon

Your 26071 Lucas starter for TeF20 should use a Lucas part# 291520 drive assembly.
I think #291506 for gear and barrel only.

Since you have two tractors all apart, I think you need to start one thread on your TE20 with the Continental, another thread on The Standard diesel starter. Or you will confuse us and get confusing answers. I would have thought a TE with a Z120 should be able to take a cheaper Delco. I know the starter on my MF35 with the 23C diesel does not fit a TEA 20-85 with the standard petrol.

This place used to be the "go to "place for T20 parts.
Do a search for old20tractorparts.
I don't see a drive for you but lots of interesting stuff for TeF20.
