stuck in reverse

"Pull your filler plug for the transmission look inside you will see a big gear.

Find a level spot shut off the tractor. Push the clutch down & put the high low shifter in neutral to relieve any pressure that might be on the gears.

With a long screwdriver or a small pry bar pry the big gear forward if it is hung in reverse. Pry it back if it is hung in first gear. If you happen to go to far it will go in the other gear. You need to get it in the center.

You should be able to feel the detent balls pop in the grooves in the shift rail as you move the gear.

found this on another forum. do I need to keep the clutch depressed as I do this?

this process should be in the archives here and MH forums too.
I doubt the clutch pedal has anything to do with the rods.

hold the phone. I got the gear to move forward. took about five seconds. it seems to shift ok now but will wait till tomorrow to start it up and truly test it. being it is sunday I do not run my tractors or cut grass or make noise in general.

Always press down on the shift lever when shifting. When you lift it up is when you will encounter being stuck between gears. Just a little trick to remember with Masseys!

I got to thinking there might be a video on YouTube that showed how to get a tractor out of gear. Couldn't find just exactly what I was looking for. But I did find one that shows the gear movements through the transmission filler plug:

I usually use a 30" long prybar when mine gets stuck in gear. The big gear to the left in the video is the one that has to be moved.

If the tractor is in reverse, more the gear towards the front of the tractor. If it's stuck in first gear move it towards the rear of the tractor.

argh cap'n! full speed forward me hearties!

all gears work. think I will become a two handed shifter with this machine. one to press down da udder to move lever.
