was leveling off some dirt I moved and went to shift gears and it seems the tranny is stuck in reverse. where do I go from here????

thanks. TO-35

Good afternoon, remove the oil filler plug, put a screwdriver down in the transmission and move the shift forks. You will have to play around with them but in a few minutes you will have it back in neutral.

This happens when shifting too quickly between gears. To avoid the problem hold down on the shift lever when shifting and shift slower.

How about raising a rear tire and alleviating the strain on the drive train. Then attempt to shift out. Your shifter balls might be stuck / worn linkage. You get to pull the top cover to effect repairs.

I had a 1947 Case D which did that now and then. We removed the gear lever and used a big screwdriver to align the selector rods in just a few minutes. Sometimes helps, if you can, to rock the tractor backwards and forwards a bit to unload the gears. A thinner gasket under the gear lever mount helped alleviate our problem.

My old to35 used to do that from time to time,

You can train old dogs to do new tricks,

When you get the forks rods unstuck,
As other gentlemen said, you must train yourself to hold down on the shifter lever as you shift gears,
After you unstick the gears a few times, you will learn to shift properly,

Most time it happens as you are going in reverse, stopping to shift to a forward gear, with gear shift lever in your hand, as you are stopping your body goes back, your hand pulls up on the shifter,
Bang, the gears are locked,

Can be fixed by replacing all the shifter rods $$$$$$$$$
I just hold down on the shifter lever and take my time as I shift, so far so good, been years since I lock transmission,
When was last time you changed oil in transmission hyd system?
Good luck with it, hope nothing Is broken inside transmission,

new trans oil last fall. I was in reverse and went to shift into 1st gear. funny thing is after reading about other guys here having the same problem I started to shift gears slowly. I guess it was just time.

craz said to move shift forks. I could not see any shift forks. did moving the big gear move the shift forks???
