Nice old tractor,

My suggestion, if you repaint it, paint it back the original colors,
I have a 1957 TO35 it was beige and gray, but I painted it red and gray, I devalued the tractor, just trying to make it look like newer model tractors,

There is a older fellow in our area who has one like yours, gray and green, he brings it to all local shows, looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor, perfect in every way, great looking tractor,

If that is a transport box then paint it gray to match, hope it has the rear tailgate, most of those were lost or misplaced along the way, however I have seen drawings of the original tailgate if you decide to make one if needed,

Good luck with the tractor,
Transmission oil will probably need changing, I used GL-1 non detergent 90 weight mineral oil in my tractor, but most now use 15w40 motor oil,
The 90 weight mineral oil is thick in the winter and takes a while to get the lift moving on a cold morning,

Maxwell thanks. The only TO35 I have been interested in is the green one. Plan on new paint and making it all correct. The transport box is without the tailgate and also had a three point triangle welded on removing the original contacts design which I would also like to restore to correct.

picture of 1955 in gray and green
picture of 1957 in beige and gray
picture of my 1957 tractor painted wrong in red and gray.

had a picture of the transport box with the illusive tailgate, but must have lost it.

Transport Box T-JO-20
with tailgate

we also have one cool old Ferguson Disc Plow, often they were called bullet plows since the main frame looks like a large artillery round,
it was said that a Ferguson plow wrench was placed inside that frame at the factory, but I have never found one, if that was true,

if you can find one of these some day, buy it.
most have gone to the scrap yard. they will plow where other plows fear to tread.
will roll over it or cut it or kick it out, and keep on going
flat bottoms would be hung up or broken.

one more thing to check on your tractor before you start the paint and powder process,
check the condition of the front axle center pivot bearing or bushing, most are worn out and if not replaced will allow the pin to wear through the center axle shaft,
it this were to ever break, it would have your tractor on the ground and bust the front of the tractor (just a word to the wise to check it out)
I keep mine lubed with graphite, do not use oil or grease on this bearing as it would collect dirt and wear even faster.

it has the earlier round clutch pedal before ferg. went to flat style. can't quite tell if it has provision for pwr steering. very good chance if it is an early one it may NOT have letters as part of the ser. no.

Great looking tractors, thanks for sharing. After the work I put into my first TO30 and then joining this forum I have become a huge fan of putting things right and restoring to as near new as possible. With some modern exceptions, like alternators and electronic ignition. I think Original paint is important so they don't get confused with the Fords. I'm hoping to get this TO35 restored for this summers local fair which has a good tractor turnout, so far I have been the lone Ferguson exhibitor.

Another nice find! I bet the green is original, looks almost too good under the hood! Early number too, I like that.
You'll like the live pto and lift, a generation beyond a 30.

Tom, real good looking 35 and much better shape than mine was before the restore. Serial #145609, has been in family since new. Mine got used hard! Engine rebuilt in 1968 and some repaint then also. It now has been gone thru completely in 2007-8.

I think that with the S in the serial # you will find that this tractor will have a single clutch.
They did this on the earlier 35's till they went with the 3 letter prefix.

Jim,
you guys did a great job restoring your TO35, looks like new,

interesting, it did not have a light kit and you got a much improved front bumper than my 1957 TO35, I understand these options were maybe dealer installed, so I guess on front bumpers they installed what they had in inventory.

I will attach a picture of the owners manual that came with my tractor, as I said it is a 1957 model, but this owners manual appears to have a tractor picture of an early 1956, which I under stand are the most rare of the color changes, beige hood and green body. They must have changed to beige hood and gray body sometime in 1956, who knows.

The copyright date is 1956 on the back of the manual.

The lights were dealer installed, I made sure when I did the body work I left the knockouts in the mounting holes showing. I messed up and painted my tank green and had to redue to gray. Fender braces and tool boxes were also green. I think the bumper was added when the work was done in 1968.I have a friend with 145958 and transmission cases were cast the same day.

The S is for Standard/Utility model. The second letter is for the clutch. F is single. If it's M then it has dual clutch. The G is for gas engine.--SFG ??? or SMG.

As far as I have seen the 3 letter prefix was not used on the early 35's. Just the letter S for single clutch and nothing for the dual clutch.
I do not know for sure, but am thinking that the 3 letters came out with the variations of high crop, single, and row crop
wheel configuration of the MH -50 and F-40.
I can be wrong, but would be interested to see if anyone has a 1955 TO-35 with the 3 letter prefix.

I have an early TO-35, in family since new, never repainted. Only non-original color is gas tank, OEM replacement tanks were painted red. SN 145147, and my owners manual has date of 1-55. The print date on the back cover was in the center at the bottom of the page, over the Ferguson logo; it was later moved to the left side bottom, like wellmax posted.

My father placed order before production/delivery had started and had to wait. All of the early deliveries were "deluxe", with 2-stage clutch and ground-speed pto. I know he didn't want to spend the extra money but dealer told us that was all that was available with first batches. Guess it turned out OK, although we never used the pto much and when you did try to use it the two-stage was never adjusted correct. Machine has over 10,000 hours. Front cover on early manual was slightly different as well, no part no, etc like on wellmax's copy.

Were the original gas tanks on this year painted green from the factory? My 1955 TO-35 came with a gray painted tank over the green motor. The tank in the photo looks like it may have been painted over.
