Hello all today is Viet Nam Veterans Day. This was the day back in 1973 when the last of the Military was brought back to the U. S.. Of course we all know there were a few that came back a short while later as they had to dispose of the items that the Government did not want coming back to the U. S. I salute all that had a part in this. Let us not forget those that did not come back on their own. Also I believe there are a few that still have not made it back as yet. Never Forget!!!!
V. N. Veterans Day

I'm with you on this. Been thinking about a good friend who came back in a body bag. This guy had so much potential like so many others.

I'll never forget.

Steve it was on this forum two or three years ago that I had even heard of a day set aside for us Viet Nam Vets. For any one that was in the same unit as I was I say GIMLETS.

That is what we would say to any officer while saluting as we walked by or the group leader would say to a passing Officer while the rest of group went about their duty. When this was done the officer knew exactly which outfit we were with. It has been to many years ago now but I think it was only our Battalion that said this.

I believe your year is off by 2 years. Even the news last night said it was 1975 before every body was out and I went in in 1974 and I am classified as a Vietnam vet. I know for sure the draft did not stop till either late 74 or early 75. In 1974 when I was in boot camp I missed the warrant office program by just days since they came around asking for people wanting to sign up for it and I tried but missed by not much. I would have loved to be a helo pilot

Well if that article is off by two years it would not surprise me as the Gov't had their fingers in it. That is one reason I posted the article so others could read it and know I did not make it up.

Drafted in 69, missed getting picked at induction center going into marines, was asked to enlist for 4 years to keep from being tunnel rat, told them I play with snakes and didn't care, spent my tour in Germany and didn't enlist. All those that were promised jobs like helicopter pilot were sent to Ft.Polk.

Been there done that. 69-70

Had the honor 6 months ago of talking to a 96 yr old WWII vet. Bomber shot down, was a POW for 2 yrs. As he was leaving he asked "how's your health." I'm OK said I. "I'm OK too" he said. His wife replied "he's supposed to have heart surgery but he won't do it." That conversation was very special to me.

Me too and have the tee shirts. Also there during the fall helping to ferry as many as we could out to the ships in the gulf. Pushing helicopters off the deck to make room for others still coming out. After the fall was at an indoctrination center on Guam trying to help people find and unite family members, it was a sad, sad time.

4 of my classmates recently made a return trip to Nam. $3500 for a 12 day guided tour, quite an interesting tour.
I belong to a Nam Vet group, lots of agent orange cancers. Our group leader became a plt leader of 18 men as an E4 during the Hamburger Hill battle.

Can I ask where you got that poster? I would love to get a copy of it for my uncle who is also a Vietnam Vet.

Bob, I think you can do a right click "Save Picture As" & save to your hard drive.

If that doesn't work I could email it to you.

Not able to go to your link but I know for a fact it was in early 1975 that we had every body out just saw a show on Vietnam the other night that talked about the last of the troops in country

"I know for sure the draft did not stop till either late 74 or early 75." your words not mine. the draft ended in 73.

don't believe me? you can google it and learn something.

Last American fighting men left in 1973. There were still advisors until the fall of Sagion in 1975.

No Old you are NOT a Viet Nam Vet. You are a Viet Nam era veteran. Their is a difference.

If that was true why was my draft card 1A as in I would have gotten drafted not my word but the guy saying join or we will have you in the Army no questions asked. So I joined the navy because I did not want the army and it was a thing where I had to go or get drafted. I'm not going to argue with you I know what I know and I was in the navy during the Vietnam era as per my V.A. card which also say service connected D.A.V.
