To30 axle seals

Hi newbie here. I just inherited a 1952 to30 from my wife's grandfather. It'd been sitting for 14ys. I completely rewired it & got it running. Was in process of doing brakes & noticed axle seals had been leaking. Got everything torn apart & pulled axles. There were no inner seals at all. Everything ive read & seen say the to30 has inner & outer seals. I ordered the kit. Have the shrink collars drilled off & fixing to pull the hub to replace outer seal. My question is why does the axle housing not look like it has a place for an inner seal? It's all cast & rough except where the hub rides. Can someone help please.

Here's the axle housing

Where you see the clean milled area inside the axle trumpet is where the seal sets. Please remember the open, spring end of a seal goes
toward the oils source, ie towards the inside. The diagram show figure 6 which is the inner seal. I actually recently did four axles.

Thank you for quick responses. I set the hub back up to the trumpet & it's really snug. I don't see how the hub & a seal can fit in there. My parts will be here this week so all I can do is try. Is it possible someone put to20 housings on it? Also the brake set up is different from all I've seen fit the 30. Mine looks to have what the shop manual is calling Brazilian? I'm really confused now.also there were no shims on left side, only right side. Should both sides be shimmed for correct bearing end play? Thanks guys

Don't see any provision for a seal there...

All you can do is put in the outer seals, be sure they are right.

The shims don't really matter which side they are on, you can divide them between the 2 sides. The bearing preload is set by the ends of the axles butting together, so get the preload right and it will work. May want to put some sealer on the flange surface on final assembly, just be sparing.

How is the oil level in the gear case? Be sure it's not over full or water contaminated. The level should be to the bottom of the round covers below the seat.

Thanks. Yea it looks different from all I've seen. I'm in process of checking level, I was actually going to drain all & flush it out & replace with new. I just wanted to fix all my leaks first to minimize my fluid waste. I did see where a lot of guys were saying fluid level to high will cause it to greatly leak past seals. Also said level should be even with bottom bolt on side inspection covers is that correct? Thank y'all for being such great help.

Normally both sides would be shimmed. Otherwise you can't adjust play on the unshimmed side very easily, at least you can't tighten. When you shim,
with both wheels up, turn one wheel and the other one should turn opposite way. If it doesn't turn, they are too loose. If it turns same way, they are
too tight.
