Changing fluids on To 35 Deluxe

Have bought a TO 35--Want to change fluids--does the one filler cap near where gear shift is take care of transmission , differential and hydraulic system.
What type oil should I put back in. Thanks

Yes the one fills all three. Add a gallon or so and let set until it runs to al three. Then add a little more until you add all 8 gallons. I use 90 weight
others. Use 15-40 motor oil. I buy the mineral 90 at Tractor Supply that has oil for Ford 8 N Transmission .

The one filler plug serves all 3. It takes about 8 gallons. If you're using the tractor in cold weather, go
with 15w40 engine oil. Using the 90 weight mineral oil will slow down the hydraulics when cold.

When filling, go slow! It takes a while for the oil to level out. Filling too fast can dump oil into the
clutch if the front seal is bad.

Those are prone to getting water in the case. It gets in around the shifter boots and the top link boot under
the seat. Be sure they are in good condition, especially if it lives outside.

The power steering is separate, it has it's own pump and reservoir. It takes ATF or light hydraulic oil.

i buy my GL-1 90 weight mineral oil at NAPA
they had it in gallon containers if you need to need a smaller amount.

they ordered a 5 gal container for me when I changed the trans/hyd/differential oil in my TO35 two years ago.

note to file: the five gallon container is much harder to deal with, for old guys, weight and pour angle, much easier to pour out of one gallon containers. you also have much better control of the amount you add back, pouring out of a one gal container.

if you have a NAPA dealer in your area you might ask them, if they do no have it in stock, they can order it, what they did for me.

as other say, take your time added it back, if its cool or cold, the mineral oil runs out like molasses.

guess that is why so may use 15w40 diesel oil,

if I had not just changed the oil last year, I might go with 15w40 as this winter I have to wait for the lift to work when its cold, however my pump is worn I am sure.

use 15W/30 oil as used in a gas engine not for a diesel engine as that has too much detergent which will allow all the crud in the rear end to be stirred up and sucked through the Pump (8 US galls). This oil does not get as thick and heavy as the original oil and is better for Draft Control. While your tractor did not have a Filter in the Pump originally, it may have been changed at sometime, so check for this first and clean it before you add the new oil. John(UK) [email protected]

John, that point is what helt me back from changing to multi grade oil,
As all multi grade oils I found over here are detergent oil and I was concerned about the cleaning factor as you mentioned,

The only non detergent oil I found was for lawn mowers: Briggs and Stratton 10w40 non detergent motor oil and it was about $6-8 per quart,

You will find that more people are using Multi-grade now, once they have tried it they see the difference.
ALL oils contains some detergent now, not all have the same amount, diesels always have more than gas engines, but you can use low detergent multi-grade if it is available. Your oil supplier should be able to order it for you. To clear out the hydraulic and transmission of as much crud as possible, easily, you should always change oil when it is as hot a possible, such as after a good day working in the field, this will cause it all to flow more easily and wash out as much crud as possible. Not changing the oil as recommended (every 12 months) causes the crud to collect. John(UK)

Does it matter what brand of oil to use. Has anyone found a difference in the quality? or its any brand name ok?

I checked this weekend
Home Depot no longer offers the multi grade non detergent oil in the store I checked,
