TO30 gas cap ... vented?

After plowing some snow yesterday, I noticed a lot of leakage from around the gas cap. I took it off and low and behold the gasket is only half there. Go figure, only 60 years old and already worn out!

Here's my question: on the parts list on this site, there is both vented and non vented caps. To me, the cap on the tank is most definitely vented (not talking about the gasket leaking here). Does anyone think otherwise?

Thanks in advance

You are correct the gas cap from the factory was vented and you need to replace it with a vented cap. That is to bad the gasket wore out already, that means it must have been made on Monday or Friday. LOL

It must be vented!

But check the one you get, I bought one recently for the TO35, ordered vented, box said vented, cap said vented...

It ran about 1/2 hour and sputtered to a stop. Took off the cap, heard it suck air. Had to drill a hole to vent it!

I couldn't help but notice that just the change in temperature with cause a vacuum in my tank and I have a brand new, as per the package, vented cap.

The cap may have been mis packaged,

If there is a vacuum building up in the tank the fuel will stop flowing to the carb and the motor will stop,

Sometimes the cap vent hole can get plugged

I know of others that have chased a motor stop problem for a long time before they realized the vented cap was stopped up,

I would not think the air temp or humidity would stop up the fuel cap vent hole,
Just my two cents,

Had same issue here. Everything said "vented". Wasn't. Took it to the drill press. Now it is.

Someone must have had a badly labeled batch of caps.

Like the original poster I got one because my old one was so beat up that on rough ground the gas would slosh out the through the cap. Didn't seem ideal. That problem is now fixed.
