I have a TE-20 just rebuilt the carb new gasket engine to manifold and new plugs and wires. It wont run with the choke off try playing with both jet settings it has a Marvel on it I believe its running lean. idle is fairly high with chock on but it starts really nice even at -15F. even if you move chocke 1/4 inch it dies immediately any guidance were to look would be appreciated

You got an air leak somewhere. I would have to pull the intake back off and run a flat edge over it and a feeler gauge. Then the local machine shop might be a large flat file.

I agree, sounds like vacuum leak. Possibly the intake gasket slipped or is on wrong.

With a Marvel carb, (at least the one on my TO35) the idle mix screw works backward of most carbs. All the way in is rich, backing it out leans the mixture.

If it has the original Schebler Carb. The settings should be 1-1/4 turns open on the main jet and the Air screw is about 7/8 of a turn open. As someone has already said, check for air leaks between the Carburettor and the Manifold and also between the Manifold and the Cylinder Head. This gasket on the Head gets brittle and breaks easily due to the heat. You should also check the Throttle spindle through the Carburettor Body that it has no free play as they do wear and allow air to be sucked in.
Allow the engine to reach working temperature before you attempt to adjust it, you cannot adjust a Carb when the Engine is only warm. John(UK) [email protected]

Hello, If you put a kit in the carb, you may have put the wrong kit in it, They made that carb for a lot of different size engines, And the jetting must match the engine by number on the carb. Put the original high speed jet back in , may run fine, I've seen this happen several times., Hope this helps......Ed
