What engine oil should I use in a TO20. Will 30W non detergent work or should I use detergent oil? Also the large oil Pan screen cover leaks oil. Are gaskets available or do most people make their own out of cork?

Thanks for any advice!

Charlie, cover gasket is for sale on the YT site.

It may still, leak; I used a little black RTV. If you're Old School, the 1950 owner's manual says to use gasket shellac, but that didn't work for me.

As for oil, many, including me, use multigrade, like 15W40 Rotella.

FYI: The parts and owner's manuals are online at the "other" N Board.

Zinc is your friend. If your engine runs a flat tappet cam, you need zinc in the oil to keep the cam happy. Modern oils do not run zinc. Zinc destroys catalytic converters. Diesels do not use catalytic converters. Diesel oil usually contains Zinc. Heavy duty rated oil usually contain Zinc. So, if you find a heavy duty rated oil that should work just fine.

I used shell 15w40 in my TO35
The motor holds good oil pressure with this oil, it is a diesel oil so it does have zinc

Tractor runs good on this oil

Any of the oils made for diesels should have zinc, however if you had rather run a straight weight oil, you can buy a zinc additive for your oil at the local auto parts store,
