To30 Knocking

Okay so I have been working on our family's TO30. I replaced the sediment bowl and rebuilt the carb and it ran fine. Well after a week if the fresh new gas sitting in the tank all the crud broke loose. We had the tank boiled out replaced bowl again and I've had the carb off three times now because it will only run on full choke. After the third carb teardown when starting the tractor it was knocking something awful when starting and eventually wouldnt even turn over. I have the heads off and the oil pan and do not see any visible damage. The engine turns by when moving the fan blade(belt is still attached). anyone got any suggestions for me.

Thanks Phil

are you sure the knocking was in the engine might be the hyd. pump building to much pressure and the releafe valve sticking or out of adjustment

When the ENGINE was still assembled,by any chance did you step/depress the CLUTCH PEDAL all the way down, and try cranking the engine on the Starter?

Did it have oil pressure when the knocking started? Sounds like oil starved bearings, got hot and seized, then cooled and will now turn. Might want to pull some rod and main caps, look for galling. Those had a problem with the drive pin coming out of the oil pump gear.

By depressing the CLUTCH PEDAL, you would be allowing the engine to turn over with nothing turning/engaged from the input of the transmission back. Possibly something has gone askew aft of the Flywheel?

Had a knocking in the front of the motor on my old TO35.

I looked everywhere, had called a few repair shops to get it in for a rebuild as I thought number one rod was knocking,

Old farmer buddy of mine came over listened to the noise, I turned motor off he started feeling around on the motor, inspecting parts to see if anything was loose,

Finally he ask, is that large bolt that holds the crankshaft pulley supposed to be out that far,

That was it, the bolt was loose and had backed out, the noise was the pulley vibrating,

We cleaned the threads on the pulley bolt, placed lock tight on the threads, tighten the bolt, that was two years ago, no more problems,
You just never know, sometimes two or three reviews are required to solve a problem,
