Interesting find on Number 7

So I found this lever on the right side of my latest TO30. I knew it what either a Sherman or Hupp, from what I have read the Hupps are on the right side and Sherman's on the left. Hopefully it still works. Also the loader is the Wagner with separate pump driven off the engine. Almost seems like I stole it from the previous owner.

Maybe my expectations are too high, but, the tractor looks like it belongs in a salvage yard, not a collection. It looks like it has been severely abused. We have a TE20 that sits in the shed unused but in much nicer condition. We have had it since about 1950. Our TO30 is a 1952 and looks like new next to that. The point is that neither one has seen the abuse

That there be the Hupp handle. It will slow that machine down to make it livable in reverse and high ball it down the road at either 15 or 25 MPH depending on what version you have. Get yourself a GPS or following vehicle to figure it out. Hupp's are the poor mans version of the Sherman unless you have the Hupp 15 MPH top speed version. That is lower geared than the standard Sherman combo trans which shares the 25 MPH top speed.
Overdrive is straight up. Direct drive is straight down.
Underdrive is pull handle out from the tractor then pull up.
My Hupp is the early design. it will get under drive and pulling it out of under drive will get it hung up between ranges. You know your hung up between ranges when you release the clutch and the engine dies. The fix for that is newer style internals which a very, very kind gentleman sold to me for a minuscule amount if compared to their actual value.
Go play with the Hupp and get back with your findings.

If the front pump is shot, a rebuild will probably be difficult, as parts are hard to come by. Easier to just replace it, although you may have to modify the bracket. New pumps are available in the $500 range. Right rear tire looks great. Hope left side is just as good. If so, that's a big plus. Ignore JohnPop, he's just jealous it isn't green...lol.

Thanks for all the comments. Yes she has had a lot of use and maybe some abuse, but, the only real abuse I have found is both fenders are beat up. A 12 volt system was put on and the rear tires were new four years ago. My plan is to degrease and clean it up. Paint this spring with original ferguson grey and blue loader. New battery going I tomorrow and we will see how she runs.

Thanks for the info on the Hupps

Tom.

I have to admit that we may have a few newer greene and a massey and a new holland. The fact remains that there is a ton of work to be done to get that machine to very good. It really looks like it has seen a really hard life by an uncaring owner. I have always had a plce in my heart for Fergusons.

well if what you say about this tractor is the case please don't look at mine lol as mine has been modified to suit the work my farther used it for 30 years ago and then my grandma and her husband got it and kept using it up until the started working away from their property some 13 years ago and would come back and use the tractor to clean up a bit but it was sheded and all that but it's had a hard life and now I'm going to do it back up but keep its work history

I agree with Bruce it's probably a Hupp dual drive Tranny but if it don't pull out in the neutral detent than it could be a F&T overdrive. The handles are similar and kinda hard to tell from the photo.
