battery question

if a six volt system requires a battery with X amount of CCA's will buying a battery with more CCA's do any harm or good?

thanks.

It won't do any harm, the more the better! The system will only use the amps it needs. Problem is you are limited to the physical size and limited selection of 6 volt batteries. But if you can find one with higher amps, and it will fit, go for it!

I've never used one, but looking at the specs, the Optima gel battery has some good numbers.

There are many people that have purchased 8 volt batteries and used them in place of 6 volt batteries. You may have to adjust the regulator but I am not sure on that. Hopefully someone can help you better than I.

I am with Richard on this one, I had a friend that had a WD45 with a power kit installed, had to use a heavy duty 8 volt battery to start that tractor when the motor was warm,

It always started so I guess it worked fine

I had a D 14 AC with a 6 volt system, I changed it to 12 volt, never had to change the starter, just the other components,
That 12 volt battery sure kicked that 6 volt starter over fast, never had a problem with it,
Just my experience,

No harm. 8V batts will kick it faster and can be occasionally charged with the 8V bench charger. You 6V reg should be set to kicking out about 7.35 volts before you play with it. Leave it alone. Just hook up the bench charger occasionally to keep it to snuff.

I'm one of the 8 volt people. I took my generator and regulator to a auto electric shop and he tweeted th regulator to put out about nine volt charging. Works great. I have since put in a 8volt alternator.
